Top 11 Jeep Wrangler Antenna Reviews

1. Rydonair Flexible Rubber Short Antenna

rydonair flexible rubber short antenna

This is one of the best jeep wrangler rubber short antenna on the market at an affordable price. Rydonair jeep antenna is 13” in length and is made from flexible rubber. That means it will bend rather than break, and it is short enough that it is less likely to be in the way.

It is designed to receive both FM and AM radio signals. It is stylish in appearance and very easy to install. This device simply screws into the factory base on the majority of Jeep vehicles manufactured between 2007 and 2021.

This whip has great reception. It looks very good and it comes with a fiber wrap meant to be used on the base that will dress your antenna base up. The range of the antenna is slightly less than the range that you get with a long whip, but I still find it to pick up the majority of the stations I used to listen to using my factory device.

2. AntennaX Off-Road Antenna

antennaX off road antenna

This 13” antenna is the perfect height for people who do off-road adventure driving. The shorter whip does not hit as many obstructions and is less likely to be broken or damaged while you are playing in dense trees and areas with lower hanging limbs and outcroppings.

Plug and play technology allows this whip to easily fit precisely where the factory antenna was installed on Jeep Wrangler JK, JL, Gladiators, and JT manufactured between 2007 and 2020.

The rubberized material this arial is made from can withstand the elements without rusting so go ahead and drive through the water, snow, and moist areas. It is flexible and bends but goes back to the original shape so let the wind bend it, or drive under a low limb, the antenna will not break off.

This is shorter than a standard device, but it has amazing receptive powers and you will more than likely still be able to tune in all of your favorite stations.

3. Ronin Factory Jeep Wrangler Bullet Antenna

Unique size and shape cause this antenna to be stylish and interesting. If you like things that create a personal look for your Jeep so you do not look like everyone else, then this is the antenna that you need.

Easy installation is one of the great features of this device. It looks far different from your standard factory supplied antenna but it screws into the factory installed antenna base using nothing but your hand.

The device is a one-piece unit that is weather resistant and will not fade or chip. It stays looking good no matter what climate you drive in, or what part of the country you live in.

It is unique in appearance, and to make sure that your antenna stays in place and does not fall prey to theft the manufacturer includes a thread locking compound with the purchase. You put the thread locking compound on the device before screwing the unit into the antenna base.

4. AntennaMasterus Jeep Antenna

AntennaMasterus jeep antenna

AntennaMasterus has created a 6 ¾” flexible rubber antenna that is a perfect fit on the Jeep Wrangler JK, JL, and Gladiator manufactured between 2007 and 2021.

This powerful little antenna will astound you with its range abilities and strength. You can drive in any weather, go to the car wash and have no worries, drive through wind, rain, sleet, or other antenna killing elements and this little piece will stay perfectly positioned and functional where other antennas would snap in half.

One secret to the strength of this unit is the stainless-steel threading that connects the antenna to the factory base. Another strengthening factor is the internal copper coil under the flexible rubber.

The copper coil is as much as 85% more conductive than the usual antenna materials so you will find that this unit is very short but capable of bringing you the stations you want to hear.

It is designed to be flexible, unlike the rigid metal whips that normally are installed at the factory. With the flexibility, you can drive your vehicle off-road without fear of breaking or damaging your antenna. You can take your car to the car wash and not fear breaking your antenna. Things You Need to Consider Before Buying Jeep Wrangler Antenna

Buying a new antenna for your Jeep should provide you with an item that allows you to hear more radio stations. Your new jeep antenna should also look more stylish on your vehicle. Before you buy a new antenna consider some of the following things and then make a list of what you want your antenna to be able to provide you.

FM, AM or Both

Not as many people listen to the old Am radio broadcasts anymore, but there are still people that do. You want a radio antenna that is capable of receiving the wavelengths for the type of radio you listen to the most.

Some radios pick up just Am stations, some pick up just FM stations, and there are radios that are capable of picking up both stations.

Material

The materials that your antenna is made of will determine how flexible the jeep antenna is, and how good the device is at receiving signals.

Most people who drive off-road like the flexible jeep rubber antennas. These antennas bend and can even bend far enough to touch the hood of the vehicle. They are less likely to break if they come into contact with a tree limb, or if you take them to the car wash and they get sprayed by the wand.

Copper coils inside the antenna will increase the antenna reception.

The mounting section of the antenna should be made of a material like stainless steel that is strong and will not corrode or rust over time.

Size

The size of the radio antenna refers mostly to the length of the device. The standard antenna length is 31-inches. That is 2.5 feet of thin metal sticking above the hood of your vehicle.

Shorter antennas in the 13” and 7” lengths are available as antenna mast replacements. Some of the ability to pick up stations from greater distances will be lost if you get a shorter antenna. Most of the shorter antennas have a signal booster built-in so they can pick up almost every station the traditional length units did.

Price

I suggest that before you shop for anything you set a budget so you will know exactly how much you can afford to spend. You will find antennas in a wide range of prices, so after you have established your budget you can shop for items that are priced accordingly.

How to Install Jeep Antenna

Your Jeep comes with an antenna from the factory. For people who live very close to the radio towers of their favorite radio stations, and people who simply do not listen to their radios the factory antenna is good enough. For people who want to pick up broadcasts from farther distances, like when they are traveling on an off-road adventure, the factory antenna is too weak to cut the mustard.

Once you have decided that you want, or need, a jeep antenna upgrades then you have to install the new antenna. This process is not that hard to do, and the majority of all people, even the ones that are not mechanically inclined, will be able to do this installation task.

The first thing you need to do is to gather up the tools you will need. You need a:

  • 7/16” wrench or you can use a small size adjustable wrench to do this
  • 10mm wrench and that will remove the factory installed arial
  • 16 mm wrench to install an antenna adaptor if you do not get an arial that will fit your vehicle without any adapter

Take the 10 mm wrench, or an adjustable wrench small enough to accommodate the antenna mast girth, and use the tool to remove the antenna mast that is currently in place.

If your new arial has an adapter you want to tighten the adapter to the factory base that is on your vehicle. (If you want to install a quick release that makes removing or changing the antenna easier in the future you should put the adapter on the bottom of the quick release and then connect the quick release and adapter ensemble to the factory base.)

Now you are ready to install the new antenna mast. Tighten this section by hand, and then use a wrench to get it properly snugged into position.

How to Take off Jeep Wrangler Antenna

Removing the factory installed antenna allows you to install a newly upgraded arial. Some people remove the entire antenna and the factory installed base because they no longer listen to the radio.

The antenna mast unscrews from the base. You might need a 10 mm wrench, or a small adjustable wrench to start the unscrewing process.

If you also want to remove the factory base you need to get a flat-head screwdriver and use it to pry up the plastic cap that covers the screws of the base. Under that cap there are three Phillips head screws that need to be removed.

You now need to get inside the vehicle and using wire clippers you need to snip the antenna wires from the back of the radio. You can then can now pull the factory base off and the wires and connector should come out with a gentle tug.

Regular vs. Stubby Jeep Antenna

When you are shopping for a new antenna you are going to see the regular antennas and a shorter or stubby version of the antenna mast.

The main difference between the two types of antennas is of course the length. The standard length of an antenna designed to receive FM signals is 2.5 feet. Stubby antennas may be half the length of the standard antennas.

Shorter antennas often have signal boosters on them because the shorter antenna will not be able to pick up radio signals from the same distances that the longer arial can.

Jeep Wrangler Antenna FAQ’s

Why Do I Need a Jeep Antenna?

If you listen to an Am or FM radio station for news or music then you have to have an antenna connected to the radio in your Jeep. The antenna picks up the radio signals and brings them to the radio unit via a wired connection.

Which Jeep Antenna is The Best?

The best jeep wrangler antenna is determined by the Jeep you drive and the purpose for your antenna. If you listen to AM or FM stations the best antenna will be determined by whether it receives AM or FM signals.

What are the Advantages of a Short Antenna?

A short antenna is a low profile item that does not come into contact with as many obstacles so they are less likely to be broken or damaged when you drive under low limbs or go to the car wash.

How Far Will I be Able to Receive Radio Signals?

The typical radio antenna is capable of picking up signals from as far away as 200 miles. This range is going to be altered by clouds, inclement weather, tall buildings, mountains, and other natural and man-made things.

Final Verdict

The best jeep wrangler antenna for radio that you choose for your Jeep should be one that looks good, has a long-range ability, and is flexible. As the article described flexibility in the jeep antenna means that you are less likely to damage the antenna when you drive in areas with lower clearance.

Short and stubby jeep antennas do not have the same range capabilities as the standard-length devices, but many of the shorter devices have boosters that allow them to pick up signals from greater distances. Shorter antennas also do better in car washes because they are not as easily broken.

Your antenna is an accessory but if you love music as much as I do it is actually a necessity.
